Matt founded MWA Engineering in 2015, building on more than three decades of engineering and construction experience. He began his career performing hands-on inspections and engineering design, then broadened into construction and estimating while working with a major general contractor — experience that still shapes the firm's practical, builder-aware approach today. Matt went on to earn his Professional Engineer license and served as Vice President of Engineering before launching MWA. Along the way, he has built business strategies at every scale, from startup service lines to multi-million-dollar operations, pairing technical depth with real leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Ohio Northern University and maintains Professional Engineering licensure in 20 states.

T.J. brings more than a decade of cross-disciplinary experience to the MWA Engineering team, with a background that bridges civil engineering and the geosciences. He holds both a Professional Engineer license and a Professional Geologist registration — a combination that gives him a particularly grounded perspective on how structures, soils, and site conditions interact. At MWA Engineering, T.J. is responsible for structural design and project management, and he is spearheading the firm's monitoring services. His work draws on hands-on experience of site assessment and structural evaluation. He earned his degrees from the University of Maryland and holds a master's in geoscience from Penn State. Known for being responsive, thorough, and genuinely easy to work with, T.J. fits right into MWA's focus on practical, cost-effective solutions and lasting client relationships.
Don Troupe
Senior Engineer
Don's career spans nearly every facet of civil engineering, and he brings that breadth to the MWA Engineering team. His experience covers structural design, construction, and geotechnical engineering, and he has also taught the next generation of engineers as an academic instructor — a combination that makes him both a strong technical resource and a natural mentor. From bridges to buildings, Don has worked across a wide range of project types, and he is known for the kind of creative problem-solving that resolves complex engineering challenges others get stuck on.
Jeff brings over 13 years of hands-on experience in the construction and engineering industry to MWA Engineering, which sets him apart from the typical field engineer. He is committed to understanding the "why" behind the work, taking a practical, immersive approach to every project while continuing to advance his education. Jeff holds an Associate of Science in STEM with an Engineering focus and is completing core coursework toward a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of Maryland. He has also earned certifications from the International Code Council (ICC), WACEL, and other agencies, reinforcing a strong foundation in field and technical standards.
